Deep Tissue Massage is a powerful form of remedial massage that focuses on the deeper layers of muscle tissue, but unlike classic Swedish massage the movements are generally slower and the pressure deeper and more focused on specific areas of tension and pain. It employs techniques using the elbows, forearms and thumbs to work below superficial connective tissue with the intent of breaking up old structural patterns of tension and allowing the free flow of oxygen and nutrients to the blood. Deep tissue massage also helps to free trapped nerves and oxygenate areas with poor circulation.
